Washington, DC’s Overwatch League team signs head coach Hyeong-seok "WizardHyeong" Kim and player Joon-hwa "Janus" Song
SEPTEMBER 11, 2018 -- Washington, DC’s Overwatch League team has made its first coaching and player hires, signing two of the most sought-after free agents in Overwatch League. Hyeong-seok "WizardHyeong" Kim joins the team as head coach after an extensive Overwatch coaching resume. Main tank player Joon-hwa "Janus" Song is the team’s first player signing. Both come from last season's New York Excelsior squad that finished a league-best 34-6 in the inaugural season, becoming the only team to make the finals of all four stages of the season, winning two.
"Head coach and main tank are the two most important positions in Overwatch League. The entire style of the team flows from them," said the Washington, DC’s team’s assistant general manager Kate Mitchell, who selected Kim and Song. "Both Wizardhyeong and Janus are excited to help build one of the strongest teams in the Overwatch League and these signings are a powerful statement of our intentions to compete with the best.”
Dexerto described Janus as "one of the highest priority targets for expansion teams building rosters, with elite-level main tanks both incredibly valuable and in relatively short supply." Stephen Chu of VPEsports called Wizardhyeong the "biggest free agent in Overwatch League."
