Respawn

This will be my last post as the lead editor and writer of this blog. I wrote a few weeks ago on Twitter that I will be leaving Justice. That becomes official soon. I just wanted to share with you some of my favorite photographs from the past few years. There are so many photos. Two years worth of media. An extended documentary project I have been very fortunate to have given to me.

But now it’s time to wrap up my part.

Watching Team USA win the OWWC in 2019 was a treat. All the flags from all the nations waving. All the people cheering. I’ll miss the roar of the crowd shouting in a dozen languages. It’s all about the fans. I’ve rarely met a group of people so hyped in sports as Overwatch fans. You all gave us the energy to keep it going

Watching the whole production of a live match has been one of my favorite subjects. Having the casters and commentators right there always challenged the notion of a video game being impersonal and distant.

This team allowed me to take some amazing photographs. Australia stands out as one of the best experiences. You CAN NOT argue with how awesome it was to hang out with kangaroos! People thought we were insane to be flying to Australia for a weekend! But we could not have had a better time.

It was fantastic to finally take the team home to DC. I love this town and I have been so happy to work for a team that represents it. I have hopes that this blog will continue to be a place for you all to see the team in the city. We all wish this year had been more open and we should have all been out in the city more. The future holds good things, I feel.

When I started, this was a brand new team. Who were we? What would happen in this new sport? I’ve tried to show us at every stage along the way. Nothing can stay the static, nothing truly creative, that is. This team will continue to change and evolve.

Hugs all around, folks. It was tough, it had highs and lows, it had screams and cheers. Again, I thank all the players, coaches, my coworkers, and the fans. I will continue to watch this team with affection.

This is Ian, signing off.

Let’s go play some Overwatch!
