Calling In Some Support

Overwatch as a game has a built in category for “support.” It’s a position we’ve all played and we know the demands. Not everyone likes playing support and others excel at it. But outside of the game we all seem to support each other. Whether it’s a little pep talk or a huge congrats or just being there for a friend, it goes a long way.

I caught many of these little gestures of support this season. It’s a bit difficult recently to simply throw your arms around a friend. For our team, we were bubbled together for months. But even just listening in chat or a few texts make a difference.

We all have that friend who doesn’t let us get down. It might seem like they’re screwing with us, giving us a hard time. Or it might be that they’re trying to pull us up. Aimgod and Decay were constantly bugging each other, as friends do. But it was a way in which they showed their support.

That look you share with friends when something you’ve worked together on pays off. That’s an important look. Catching moments like this of PRE and Sup7eme were golden. The stress of assembling the past few months was significant. Yet there were big pay offs. A small hug and a smile.

We’re in off season now. It’s a time of rest. But it can be a good rest knowing that those lessons and themes of teamwork and support are still valid. Aimgod nanoing at the right moment, r0ar’s shield dropping in, a few bad jokes at dinner, an arm over the shoulder after a rough practice. All that means as much after the fact as it did when it was needed.

So we rest up and get ready for next season.

Let’s go play some Overwatch!
